This delightful recipe for a homemade Twix ice cream is such a fun thing to make. Frozen desserts are great at dinner parties because they can be made very far in advance, and ice cream is one of the easiest things to prepare. Using fun or even wacky flavor combinations is also a great way to potentially invent a new household favorite. Of course the old standby of adding chopped up candy bars to ice cream is a fun choice as well.
This recipe is a little different than another of my popular candy bar ice creams, kit kat ice cream, in that it does use a special bottle of store-bought milk. However it is entirely possible to leave it out if you cannot find it or do not want to use it. I find it gives a little more of that exact Twix flavor to this homemade ice cream, but more on that later.
The base of this ice cream is actually a bit unique as well. It isn’t just my amazing chocolate ice cream base with chopped up Twix tossed in. In fact, I developed this recipe to essentially copy that great caramel and chocolate and biscuit flavor throughout the entire ice cream.
What You’ll Need
As with all of my ice cream recipes on Scoops of Delight, you need an ice cream machine. The exact style and brand does not matter too much but you do want one that is decent quality. I personally use the Smeg ice cream maker. The only issue with it is that you need to already have a Smeg stand mixer – which can be quite pricey. While there are plenty of recipes for no-churn ice creams, I often find a properly churned ice cream magnitudes better.
Some other things you will need for this homemade ice cream recipe are:
- Mixing Bowls
- Whisk
- Steel Pans (I personally find steel the best for making ice cream, but you can use any as long as you are careful about the temperature.
- Rubber Spatula
- Sealable Container (The best thing to use to store homemade ice cream is plastic in my opinion. You want something that is more flat than tall as it provides more surface area to quickly freeze in a home freezer).
- Kitchen Scale (optional, but recommended as almost all of my recipes use metric as it is more precise than imperial for most home cooks).
How To Make The Best Homemade Twix Ice Cream
This recipe uses a 1:1 cream to milk ratio. This is different than other flavors like cookies and cream for example which use 2:1 cream to milk. The reason for that is solely because I did not know how strong the Twix milk would taste and did not want to dilute it too much with extra cream.
Ingredients
300 ml Heavy Cream
200 ml Milk (Full fat)
100 ml Twix Milkshake Drink (If you cannot find this feel free to just use regular milk in its place)
120 grams Sugar
65 grams Dark Chocolate (finely shaved with a knife or grated with a microplane)
2 tbsp Caramel Sauce ( You can usually find this in stores. I used this recipe, although let it get a little too dark while making it).
1/4 tsp Salt
4 bars Twix
This Twix ice cream recipe is actually super easy. Which might come as a surprise since it’s a more ‘artificial’ flavored ice cream which usually means more complex. Not in this case. Simply add all the ingredients except for the caramel sauce and the full size candy bars to a large cold bowl and whisk to combine. Place the mix into the fridge to chill.
Note: If you started with really cold ingredients right from the fridge then you only need to put them back for 10 mins or so.
Set up your ice cream machine and make this Twix ice cream according to your machine’s instructions. For example my Smeg attachment requires 30 minutes at the second lowest speed setting.
Chop up the Twix candy bars into chunks. When the ice cream has just a minute left add the candy pieces right into the machine so they are evenly distributed throughout the ice cream.
When your ice cream is done churning, scoop a bit of it into your container. Then add a drizzle of the caramel. Repeat this step until you have used up all your ice cream.
When it is time to serve get out your favorite ice cream dish and scoop up a few balls of this homemade Twix ice cream. You can garnish with even more chopped up candy bar – or just eat it straight from the tub. It is entirely up to you how you enjoy this tasty ice cream.

- 1 Whisk
Ingredients
- 300 ml Heavy Cream
- 200 ml Milk Full fat
- 100 ml Twix Milkshake Drink If you cannot find this feel free to just use regular milk in its place
- 120 grams Sugar
- 65 grams Dark Chocolate finely shaved with a knife or grated with a microplane
- 2 tbsp Caramel Sauce You can usually find this in stores. I used this recipe, although let it get a little too dark while making it.

Instructions
- Add all the ingredients except the caramel sauce and the twix candy bars to a large bowl and whisk together. Place in the fridge to chill if the ingredients were not already very cold.
- Place ice cream mix into your ice cream machine and run according to your machine's instructions. In the last minute or so of churning add in your twix pieces so they get incorporated without deflating the ice cream.
- Move soft ice cream to a sealable container while interjecting some caramel syrup in between the layers. Place in the freezer until done.
- When ready to serve your homemade Twix ice cream scoop a few balls into a dish and garnish with a Twix bar for presentation.
